Good Evening. My name is Yanxin Schmidt. I am running for the school committee. Please vote for me on April 25th. Public service is one of my core values and the Acton-Boxborough Regional Schools is one of the best things of our community. I want to maintain and expand the excellent educational services that our schools have been providing to students.

I have been volunteering in the district since 2018, when my eldest child started school at McCarthy-Towne. My interactions with students, educators, parents and guardians has helped me understand the challenges and needs of our students, educators and families.

Currently I coach two youth soccer teams for Acton-Boxborough Youth Soccer. I am a Vice President for Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS), a youth soccer league composed of 52 recreational youth soccer clubs in the Greater Boston Area. BAYS has an annual budget of $360,000. In my capacity as the league vice president, I worked to set up a business continuity task force to ensure all stakeholders’ interests are looked after, especially the underrepresented smaller clubs in economically challenged areas.

I recognize our students have different learning styles. I want to support the teachers as they provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all our students. As a school committee member, I will support strategies that make all of our students successful. Education does not happen in a vacuum. I will engage the members of our towns’ finance committee and state legislators in conversations about securing adequate funding for our schools. Moreover, I will work with the administration to establish a set of meaningful metrics to evaluate current initiatives aimed at ensuring student success.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to meet with you tonight. Please vote for Yanxin on April 25th.
